Duke Medicine
DukeMedicine.org was a complex and interesting project. Duke is well branded and established as a thought leader in medicine, however their online presence did not reflect this. While their competitors focused on symptoms and illnesses, research showed that patients simply want to be connected to the right doctor to help them. We discovered that gaining market share for Duke would be a much easier task if we built an online tool that answered this basic need of helping patients locate the right doctor to treat their individual need.
It was during this project that I found my passion for creating user centered digital projects that enrich people's lives. For the first time the goal wasn't to help a company sell something; our goal was to create a solution for our client that would actually make a difference in people's lives.
I had the privilege of working with an outstanding team of talented t-shaped individuals to set the foundation of the future of the Duke website.
My role throughout this project ranged from Art director to lead designer and user experience designer.
We are using agile development to build the website, so in reality this project will never be done. There will be future releases with new attributes and continual improvements, based on user testing and analytics.

From a strategic standpoint we wanted to make the site responsive, with a mobile first approach, so users could easily access the site and content on any device. This would influence all design and technology decisions.
Our process is very transparent and team focused. Everyone participates in creating the product. As a team, we concept and sketch out possible solutions for tasks, break the sketches down, build wireframes, prototype in browser, then we fine tune with design.
